This research cluster has a unique international reputation for a broad range of pure and applied atmospheric research, including significant knowledge transfer to the international meteorological market place. During the RAE period, research income has been almost £1 million from NERC and there have been 10 completed PhDs and more than 70 publications in international journals. The road weather company Entice Technology Ltd was founded in 2002, successfully filed a patent for novel Sky-View Factor Measurement using Geomatics, and was sold in 2006 for more than £1 million to Weather Services International (WSI Inc.) - the largest private weather forecast company in the world. The cluster has twelve active members of staff, of which six are core and six are joint members with other research clusters in the School.
