Biography

Marco Antonsich gained his first PhD in Geography at the University of Trieste, Italy in 1997 (“The Territorial Imprint of Power: Urban Iconographies in Ethiopia, 1936-41”). He served as a Research Fellow at the same University from 1999-2003. He then moved to the United States where he completed a second PhD in Geography in 2007 (“Territory and Identity in the Age of Globalization: The Case of Western Europe”). His research has been supported by grants from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Italian National Council for Research (CNR), NATO, and the Finnish Foreign Affairs Ministry (CIMO). He has collaborated with different scholarly and policy institutes (Centro Militare per gli Studi Strategici; Istituto per gli Studi di Politica Internazionale; Institut de Stratégie Comparée; The Finnish Institute of International Affairs). He sits in the editorial board of the Italian geopolitical journal Limes. Marco joined the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences in May 2007 as a Research Fellow.
